Story

On a rainy Thursday evening, eager to get home from a busy workday, you drive through a crosswalk in your neighborhood. What you missed in the poor visibility conditions was a little girl riding her bike with her father closely following. Only her bike is left behind, and both lives have changed forever. This did not need to happen.

300,000 pedestrians die every year globally, 6,000 in the U.S, 108 in the state of Washington

62% occurred when the pedestrian was crossing the street

65% occurred where there were no traffic controls

73% occurred on roads with a posted speed of 30 mph or higher

Mission

Sensol Systems is dedicated to reducing pedestrian-involved traffic accidents for the smart city of the future by linking increased safety measures with developing smart technology. We aim to achieve this goal by providing an updated crosswalk that can detect and illuminate a pedestrian from below in their exact location and can communicate this information to autonomous vehicles in a safe, equitable, and sustainable format. Our mission aligns with that of the Vision Zero Initiative and the core values of the Smart Cities Council.
